Yeah, so I hit 155 again. Bouncing between 146 and 155 for a while now, and I know exactly what resets me. I’ve done it before. A good fast, done right, drops me back toward my best weight of 145 and reminds my body who’s actually in charge.
Most guys think fasting is about grit. Gut it out, ignore the hunger, wait for the number to move. That’s not how it works for me. Willpower runs out by lunch. What gets me through isn’t discipline, it’s having something bigger than the scale pulling at me.
This fast started after lunch with one of my G-girls (aka granddaughters) at a GDBDC meeting – nothing since. The G-Dad Birthday Club. One G-girl at a time, around her birthday, a special outing, shopping, a handmade card, and a tiara. The vision that keeps me honest isn’t a number on a scale. It’s being that G-dad in 20 years, still showing up, still skating, still handing a 25-year-old her card and crown.
That’s worth a fast.
Back to today. I did have MCT oil and coconut oil in my coffee, which I don’t always do but felt right. And I always rely on my secret weapon: Topo Chico, my favorite mineral water from Mexico, ice cold and carbonated. Something about it just kills any thought of eating. Cracked open one bottle after another, not for the taste, just for something to do with my hands. Staying busy helped too.
By morning I was down to 151. Four pounds in one day. Reset in progress.
One data point isn’t a conclusion. But it’s a solid start.
To be continued.
